# Change or end a Direct Debit

> How a customer ends a Direct Debit themselves, from the link in their email or on the Bayarcash mandate page, and what you can do as a merchant.

A customer can end their own Direct Debit without contacting you. They choose one of two ways: the link in the e-Mandate email, or the Bayarcash mandate page. Share this page with a customer who asks how to stop.

## End it from the email

Use this when the customer still has the e-Mandate email.

1. Open the e-Mandate email.
2. Select the **termination form** link in the email.
3. Select **Proceed With Termination**.

## End it on the Bayarcash mandate page

Use this when the customer would rather do it on the website.

1. Go to the Bayarcash mandate page at https://mandate.bayarcash.com/.
2. Enter the details it asks for. You find them in the e-Mandate email.

3. Follow the screen to finish the termination.

## What you can do as a merchant

Only the payer can terminate a Direct Debit. As a merchant you can:

- Check the status in the [e-Mandate list](/e-mandates/). A terminated e-Mandate shows **Terminated**.
- Through the API, stop an active e-Mandate from being deducted without terminating it.
- Through the API, start a maintenance or termination request. The customer gets a link to confirm it.

Developers: see [Developers](/developers/) and the [API reference](https://api-reference.bayarcash.com).

For recurring orders in your shop, see [WooCommerce](/woocommerce/) and [GiveWP](/givewp/).

## Common issues

### My customer wants to stop paying. What do they do?

They can end it themselves with the termination form link in their e-Mandate email, or on the Bayarcash mandate page. Steps are below.

### Can I terminate a customer's Direct Debit for them?

Only the payer can terminate a Direct Debit. Through the API you can start a termination request that the customer confirms. See Developers (/developers/).

### My customer cannot find the email.

Ask them to search their inbox and spam folder for the e-Mandate email. The mandate page needs details from that email.
